Twenty-two cards from the Canadian "Race Against Time" series of the mid-1950s — a 40-card set (backs in English and French, "La Course Contre Le Temps") celebrating the greatest races and speed records of all time, from Roman chariots to rockets. The art is pure 1950s: saturated colour, dramatic angles, and records frozen at the moment they were printed. Canadian content runs through the lot: the Calgary Stampede chuck wagon race record of 1953, "Canadiana Wins" the Queen's Plate at Toronto in 1953, and Ned Hanlan's 1878 sculling win for Canada. The sci-fi "Space Ship Race — First to the Moon" card, printed years before Sputnik, is the one everyone picks up first. Eighteen different cards, with four duplicates — a strong start on the 40-card set.
