Nine cards from Bowman's 1954 "Power for Peace" series — the Cold War in cardboard. Every front is a colourized official U.S. service photograph, and every back tells the story in that earnest 1954 voice, from the atomic submarine USS Nautilus ("the first nuclear-powered submarine, very recently launched at Groton, Connecticut") to the Nike guided missile standing guard at White Sands and the 7½-ton Viking rocket that hit 3,900 mph over New Mexico. Korean War-era gear throughout: Marines firing a 75mm recoilless rifle, a tracked "Weasel" hauling ammo through the mud, giant Signal Corps telescopic cameras, and an Air Force weather station tracking balloons. All nine are different cards from the 96-card set.
