1975 Claypool’s Saddlery Brian Claypool Rodeo Advertising Calendar – Saskatoon

Description

A scarce piece of Saskatoon rodeo and local-business history, this original 1975 advertising calendar was produced for Claypool’s Saddlery Ltd., formerly located at 322 Avenue B South in Saskatoon.

The calendar features an action photograph captioned “Brian Claypool on Brown Wests Red Flame – Regina, 1973.” Brian Claypool was born in Lucky Lake and raised in Saskatoon as the second oldest of seven children of Ralph and Ellen Claypool—the same names displayed prominently on the calendar beneath the Claypool’s Saddlery name.

Brian became one of Saskatchewan’s most accomplished rodeo athletes. He won Canadian bull-riding championships in 1975 and 1976, captured Calgary Stampede bull-riding titles, qualified for four consecutive Canadian Finals Rodeos and competed twice at the National Finals Rodeo in the United States.

Brian’s interest in rodeo began while attending events where his father competed in chuckwagon racing. He also excelled in wrestling while attending E.D. Feehan High School before pursuing rodeo full-time. His achievements were later recognized through induction into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

This is much more than an old calendar—it connects the Claypool family’s Saskatoon saddlery business with the career of one of Canada’s most respected rodeo cowboys.

Condition

Vintage used condition with age-related wear. There is visible discolouration, staining, surface marks, softened and bent corners, light creasing and waviness throughout the paper. The back has staining, marks and remnants from the original calendar attachment.
