An unusual piece of 19th-century American history, this decorative United States Internal Revenue document was produced as a $25-per-year special tax stamp for a retail liquor dealer.

The attached monthly coupons are dated from May 1873 through April 1874, placing the document in the early 1870s. It features detailed Victorian-era engraving, ornate lettering, a red Internal Revenue seal and serial number A217687.

The spaces for the dealer’s name, location and issue information remain blank, suggesting that the document may never have been formally issued. An interesting display piece for a collector of antique documents, revenue stamps, early American history or vintage advertising.
