Seven genuine golden-age postcards, every one of them actually mailed over a century ago — and most of them travelled the prairies. The group includes two Raphael Tuck cards, among them the comic "Smile at the past and you can grin at the future" hourglass card drawn by cartoonist Dwig, mailed from Winnipeg in 1910. There are three richly embossed holiday cards (two Christmas, one New Year), a floral Easter card, the comic song card "You Made Me Love You," and a scenic view of the Japanese Gardens at Como Park in the Twin Cities, mailed in 1908. The backs are half the charm: handwritten messages, Edward VII and George V stamps, and postmarks for Winnipeg, Whitewood and Carlyle, Saskatchewan, and Tyndall, Manitoba. Real mail, real handwriting, real prairie history.
