A fantastic piece of Saskatchewan folk art and local history, this appears to be an original hand-painted work by Joan Crispin, dated July 29, 1974.

The handwritten information on the reverse identifies the work as:

“Greek Orthodox Church N. Sask.”

The painting depicts a small prairie church surrounded by open grassland beneath a pale blue Saskatchewan sky. Two small figures appear in the distance at the right. The loose, expressive brushwork gives it a wonderful mid-century folk-art character.

An especially interesting feature is the reverse, which retains the artist's handwritten title, name and exact date, providing strong provenance directly on the piece.

I searched for Joan Crispin and could not find reliable published sales records or an established Canadian art-market profile for the artist, so I would not market this as a listed or well-known artist. Condition
