Rare Vintage Durgin-Park Market Dining Rooms Glasses with Coaster/Ashtray Bases – Set of 2

A very unusual piece of Boston restaurant history, this set includes two Durgin-Park Market Dining Rooms glasses, each paired with its own heavy glass combination coaster / ashtray base.

The glasses feature the classic Durgin-Park Market Dining Rooms advertising and the famous line “Established Before You Were Born”, along with 1827. The separate glass bases are shaped to hold the drinking glass while also providing an extended rest area that appears intended for use as an ashtray.

Durgin-Park was one of Boston’s best-known historic restaurants, operating at Faneuil Hall Marketplace until its closure in 2019. Restaurant memorabilia was important enough that a dedicated auction was held after the restaurant closed, offering signage, advertising pieces and other artifacts from the landmark establishment.

This particular glass-and-coaster/ashtray combination is not something you come across often, especially as a matching pair. They would make a fantastic display for a collector of historic restaurant memorabilia, Boston history, vintage barware, or unusual advertising pieces.
