A fantastic piece of 1970s CB radio and trucking history — complete with its original red retail box.

This is a Today’s Electronic Model No. 747 Citizens Band Receiver, a compact receive-only CB unit designed for use in a vehicle. The box advertises reception of all 23 CB channels, up to a claimed 15-mile radius, and shows installation using an external antenna attached to the windshield.

The packaging helps date this one particularly well. It states that the receiver “will also receive full 40 CB channels when they are available.” The FCC authorized the expansion of the U.S. CB band from 23 to 40 channels effective January 1, 1977, strongly pointing to this receiver being marketed around 1976, right at the height of the CB-radio craze. USITC

Even better, the original box is covered with period CB culture. One panel includes classic “Truckers CB Terms” such as Smokey, Bear, Four Wheeler, Green Stamps, Rockin’ Chair and Ten-Four, while another contains a complete CB 10-Code reference chart.

Made in Taiwan and very much a product of its era.

Condition

Good vintage condition considering its age.

The receiver powers on and produces sound, but I was unable to pick up any CB conversations during testing. Because local CB traffic, antenna setup and signal conditions can all affect reception, the receiving function has not been fully verified.

It should therefore be considered power-tested only, with reception unconfirmed, and sold as a vintage collectible rather than guaranteed working communications equipment.

The original box has significant authentic storage wear including creases, tears, edge wear, scuffs and some crushing, but remains remarkably complete and adds considerably to the display value.

Please review all photos closely for exact condition.
