Vintage Arctic Boy 3 Gallon Galvanized Water Cooler – Schlueter Mfg. Co. St. Louis

A great piece of vintage utility ware — an original Arctic Boy 3-gallon galvanized metal water cooler manufactured by Schlueter Mfg. Co. of St. Louis, Missouri.

This old-school cooler features a galvanized steel exterior, insulated construction, light-coloured plastic-lined interior, fitted lid, wire carrying bail with wooden grip and front dispensing spigot.

The embossed body is marked “Standard 3 Gal. Plastic Lined” and prominently displays the ARCTIC BOY name across the front.

These coolers were made for practical use on farms, job sites, camping trips and outdoor gatherings. Period advertising from 1961 specifically shows Arctic Boy galvanized water coolers being sold in 3-gallon sizes, helping place this example firmly in the mid-century era.

Even better, this one has been tested with water and holds without leaking.

Condition

Good vintage condition with plenty of authentic age and character.

The galvanized exterior shows scratches, scuffs, oxidation, discoloration and general surface wear from decades of use. The blue-painted wooden carrying grip has noticeable paint loss.

The interior liner presents quite cleanly for its age with some minor marks and wear.

The lid, handle and spigot are present.

Water tested and currently holds water without leaking.
