Vintage B/A British American Oil Co. Service Products 5-Gallon Metal Can

Fantastic old British American Oil Company Limited petroleum advertising can with original green painted finish and heavily weathered B/A Service Products paper label.

This is a genuine Canadian petroleum collectible with wonderful untouched character. The large cylindrical steel container retains portions of its original advertising label, including “Service Products” and “The British American Oil Company Limited.”

The bottom is especially interesting, with embossed Canadian manufacturing markings including Made in Canada, Toronto and Montreal references, and a 1928 registered trademark/patent marking associated with the container construction. The 1928 marking should not be taken as the exact manufacture date of the can, but it helps establish the early style of the container.

The heavy paint loss, surface rust, worn label and industrial wear give this piece exactly the kind of authentic patina many petroliana collectors look for. B/A advertising has a strong Canadian following, making this a great garage, shop or petroleum display piece. British American Oil was a major Canadian petroleum company and was operating under that name for decades before its eventual association with Gulf.

Condition

Well-used vintage condition with significant authentic age and wear.

There is widespread scratching, paint loss, oxidation and surface rust. The original paper advertising label is heavily worn and incomplete but enough remains to clearly identify the British American Oil Company and Service Products branding.

The top and bottom show considerable oxidation and age-related wear.
