Vintage Gulf Oil Can Tear-Open Pouring Lid – 2.75"

A great little piece of vintage Canadian service-station history. This original Gulf oil advertising can lid features the classic orange-and-blue Gulf logo along with its ingenious built-in tear-open pouring strip.

The bilingual instructions read “TO REMOVE – GRIP EAR AND TEAR / POUR ÔTER – DÉCHIRER L’OREILLE,” indicating this was designed as the opening/pouring top from a Canadian Gulf oil container. Rather than being just a loose logo piece, the surviving pull-tab mechanism makes it an interesting example of vintage oil-can packaging.

Condition

Pre-owned vintage condition with expected age and use wear. There is surface staining, oxidation/rust, scratches and wear to the printed finish. The centre tear strip and pull-tab assembly remain present. The Gulf graphics are still bright and immediately recognizable.
