Vintage January 1946 Waghorn’s Guide – Winnipeg Street Map & Business Directory

An authentic January 1946 issue of Waghorn’s Guide, published in Winnipeg. This pocket-size Canadian guide combines a Winnipeg street map, business directory, transportation information and period advertising, making it a great piece of Manitoba history and post-war Canadian ephemera.

The cover is marked No. 745 – January 1946 – 20¢ and includes period Winnipeg advertising for businesses such as the St. Regis Hotel, Security Storage, Osler Hammond & Nanton Limited and others. The back features a striking Sweet Caporal Cigarettes advertisement.

Waghorn’s Guides were long-running Winnipeg reference publications containing maps, street information and local advertising; examples are preserved by the City of Winnipeg Archives and University of Manitoba Archives.

Condition

Fair vintage condition for its age.

The covers and pages show noticeable age toning, creasing, edge wear and handling wear. There are tears and losses around portions of the cover and page edges. Interior maps remain readable and display very well considering the age.

The wear gives this piece strong authentic character, but it should be considered a collector/display copy rather than a pristine archival example.
