A fantastic piece of Western Canadian dairy advertising history — an original Palm Dairies Limited quart milk bottle with red and green graphics and its original-style paper bottle cap still in place.

The front features the classic Palm Milk and Cream logo beneath a group of illustrated faces, while the reverse carries the period advertising slogan referring to “going to work — or going to school.” The cap is printed “Wash and Return Bottles Daily – Pure Fresh Milk.”

Palm Dairies has deep Western Canadian roots. The company was created in the mid-1920s by Patrick Burns as an umbrella organization for his dairy businesses and became one of Canada’s major creamery and dairy distributors. Palm later operated plants in Saskatchewan, including Saskatoon and Regina; Statistics Canada records a Palm Dairies Saskatoon plant at 485 1st Avenue North in 1973.

The Museum of Vancouver dates comparable Palm Dairies glass milk bottles to approximately the 1940s–1960s, which is the range I would use for this example unless a bottle-maker code gives us a tighter date.

Very good vintage condition overall.

The bottle appears free of obvious cracks or major chips from the photographs. The applied graphics remain colourful and quite readable, with expected light wear from age and repeated commercial use.
