Antique Redlich’s Warranted Wooden Barrel Faucet & Vintage Wooden Cask Tap

fascinating pair of early wooden barrel and cask taps with wonderful untouched character.

The standout piece is an authentic Redlich’s Warranted Faucet, manufactured by Redlich Mfg. Co. of Chicago. Redlich was a noted maker of wooden faucets, bungs, corks, plugs and cooperage supplies used with barrels and casks.

The original marking remains clearly visible:

Period records describe Redlich faucets as specially treated or “India-rubber saturated.” Redlich was producing wooden faucets and related cooperage supplies by the late 1800s and exhibited its products at Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition.

The second unmarked wooden cask tap complements the Redlich example beautifully. Together they make an unusual display for a collection of antique advertising, brewery history, cooperage equipment, general-store pieces or early American tools.

Condition

Good antique condition with substantial authentic wear from age and use. Both pieces show scratches, staining, darkening, surface wear and aged patina. Metal components show oxidation and discoloration.

The Redlich’s manufacturer marking remains remarkably readable and is an important part of the piece’s appeal. Neither piece has been restored or refinished.
