Four pieces of western Canadian travel paper from the golden age of the road trip. Great display pieces for a western Canadian collection.

Details
Quantity: Lot of 4 items
Included: 1) Official Road Map of Alberta, 1950 - produced by the Department of Public Works and published by the Department of Economic Affairs, Government of the Province of Alberta, for free distribution; lithographed in Canada. The map side covers Alberta with a Western Canada mileage-chart inset; the reverse carries a mileage chart, "Places of Interest in Alberta," street plans of Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, a radio station list, and game, fishing and camping panels. The cover carries the Alberta shield and the year 1950. 2) Alberta Canada Vacation Information booklet, circa 1950 - Alberta Travel Bureau, Legislative Buildings, Edmonton. A multi-panel booklet with a pictorial-map cover and sections on the national parks (Jasper, Banff, Waterton Lakes, Elk Island, Wood Buffalo), the Far North, the Alaska Highway and Mackenzie Highway, fishing, hunting, year-round vacations, customs, accommodation and transportation. 3) British Columbia Road Map, early 1950s - B.C. Government Travel Bureau, Department of Trade and Industry, Victoria. Totem-pole cover; the map side is framed with Indigenous-art border designs, and the reverse has photo panels, ferry service, camping regulations, hunting and fishing licence fees and a Vancouver street map. 4) Travel Adventures in Fabulous British Columbia, early 1960s - B.C. Government Travel Bureau. One side is a colourful pictorial map of the province; the other side details 18 numbered regional tours with colour photos, including Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Kootenays, the Cariboo, Totemland, Kitimat, the Peace River and the Alaska Highway. Waterfall photo on the back cover.
Dating basis: the Alberta map is dated 1950 in print on both the cover and the map. No year is printed on the BC road map; its printed population figures (British Columbia approx. 1,198,000; Metropolitan Vancouver 535,235) place it in the early 1950s. The Travel Adventures map describes the Rogers Pass Highway as newly opened, which dates it to shortly after 1962. The Alberta booklet is the same period and design as the 1950 map issue.

Condition
All four pieces are complete and open fully, with fold wear and toning consistent with their age. The 1950 Alberta map has a pencil notation along the bottom margin of the map side and light spotting. The Alberta booklet shows foxing spots on its pages and edge wear. The British Columbia totem-pole map has a route highlighted in green pen across the map face by a previous owner, running through the Cariboo toward Prince George. The Travel Adventures map has light creasing and fold wear, and the pictorial side is bright. Please see all photos for the exact condition of each piece.
