VIVA POW MIA Bracelet – Vietnam War Era – Lt. Col. Ivan Appleby, Lost 10-7-67 – Sealed in Original Packaging – c. 1970

Some pieces of history you hold carefully. This is an original VIVA P.O.W.–M.I.A. bracelet from the Vietnam War era, still sealed in its original packaging with its paperwork — never worn, never even opened. In 1970, the student organization VIVA (Voices In Vital America) began distributing these bracelets so Americans would not forget the more than 1,500 servicemen who were prisoners of war or missing in action in Southeast Asia. Each bracelet carries one man's name and the date he was lost, to be worn until he came home. This one honours Lt. Col. Ivan Appleby, lost October 7, 1967. Sealed examples with the full original card are far scarcer than the loose, worn bracelets that turn up most often — a serious piece for a militaria or Vietnam-era collection.
